The video consists of me, dressed in traditional Hungarian folkware. My costume is from my mother, who wore these clothes when she was a professional folk dancer when she was younger. The vest in particular is a hand me down from my great grandmother.
I sit down to play a folk song over and over again on my father’s Hungarian Citera. He taught me how to play a few songs on it when I was a child. Unraveled, is an exploration of my Hungarian heritage, the overwhelming feeling of cultural and social constructs and expectations, and how catharsis can lead to renewal.
